INTRODUCTION TO INTERPS

Welcome to Interps, our unique Internships Program created exclusively for our Terps in conjunction with our University of Maryland Mentorship program. We hope that this program will provide business insight and life skills to our students-athletes, usually gained only outside of a classroom setting.

WELCOME TO INTERPS

A letter from Head Coach, Michael Locksley:

Thank you for your interest in the University of Maryland football family.

We look forward to welcoming you and your family into our team, our campus, and our greater community.

The University of Maryland football family is committed to providing our athletes with the necessary tools and resources to support them in the classroom, on the field, and in life. As such, we are pleased to introduce InTerps, our Player Development program.

A first of its kind, and unique to any program in the NCAA, InTerps will establish an exclusive three-pronged approach to strengthen and support our athletes on and off the field through mentorship, internships and our investment club.

The objective is simple: build our students into champions, both professionally and athletically.

Our first step in the InTerps program is mentorship. Each of our student-athletes are paired with a mentor who has achieved professional success within the greater Washington, DC, and Baltimore business community. With the same care I share on the field, each mentor will coach their student-athlete toward achievements “off the field” through the development of life goals, resume building and other critical skills necessary for their professional development. Through this exceptional and unique relationship, our InTerp mentors will help our players develop crucial skills for continued success in life after football.

The next phase of the program is the business internship component, designed to ease our student’s transition from the field of play into the working arena. As interns in one of many diverse job opportunities, each student will strengthen their interview skills, apply problem-solving and critical thinking with hands-on training.

The unique relationships our football family has built, with these mentors and local employers, allows us to create coveted opportunities for our students.

Equally exclusive to InTerps is our Investment Club. Combining our students’ interest in learning more about managing their money and our mentors’ personal success – the investment club has become a classroom outside of the classroom to educate student-athletes about how to grow their money, how stock markets work and improving their overall financial literacy.

The end-goal of our singular InTerps opportunity is to graduate student-athletes who are prepared for life beyond football. We want our Terps to be pillars of excellence within the community, and an inspiration to others, both professionally and athletically.

As a lifelong coach and mentor myself, I always say, “success leaves clues.” InTerps is committed to unlocking these clues to foster continued success for our student-athletes, both today and beyond.

I know that together, we can and will make a difference in the lives of our leaders of tomorrow.

Welcome to our family, #TBIA (The Best is Ahead).
