You and your mentee should discuss what is best for each of your schedules. We encourage our student athletes to make a connection at least twice a month.
Each InTerp is a student at the University of Maryland in College Park, a student athlete, and is a full time participant in the University of Maryland Football program.
View our program as a facet of your overall hiring and company interview program. College students bring energy
to your staff, newer creative ideas to your team and assist in instilling excitement to the office environment. Student athletes, in particular, allow company staff to heighten their interest in local sports teams and assist in perpetuating a culture based upon comradery and winning excellence.
Each intership is different and each Company creates its individual budgets and programs. InTerps are permitted to
be paid a wage that is similar to others hired for similar tasks within the Company. Most often, our interns are paid an hourly wage for work performed. Paying Interns tends to avoid any issues that may result from violations of state laws associated with free labor.
Overall flexibility is the key to success. At the commencement of the internship, the hiring manager will establish a work schedule for each intern. Student athletes are under tremendous academic and physical conditioning pressures. Each intern will develop communication with their hiring manager in order to insure hours are structured properly for mutual success. Each hiring manager and intern will agree to a work schedule that is as consistent as possible with the student’s commitments and the Company’s needs.
InTerps are mostly available during periods when their commitments to sports training are less burdensome.
Academic pressures, however, exist during the entire academic year. Each intern may work as long as they are permitted to do so by the Company and as long as both the Company and Intern feel that the opportunity is progressing in a positive manner.
This is encouraged. Interns are members of your team and you are encouraged to treat them as such. If you fully engage your student Intern, their enthusiasm for the job will positively reflect on your business.
Each job assignment is different. Safety is paramount at all times in all work environments. Interns seek meaningful work assignments and goal oriented assignments are encouraged. Many important tasks exists in the office environment and some remain uncompleted due to employee time contraints. Employees should be encouraged to interact with and assign direct tasks to our Interns. Having your intern work with all levels of staff is strongly encouraged.
